Latin community faces struggles in…

access_timeJuly 13, 2022

Latinos living in the U.S.  face barriers similar to those ultimately overcome by waves of immigrants before them. Policies and practices have led to Latinos being paid less than non-Latino White Americans within the same occupational categories—and even less for Latinos not born in the United States—and to have lower access to education, food, products, and services. The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting recession have wreaked havoc on the United States’ Latino community. Due to Latino workers being overrepresented in…

How Latin American Social Workers…

access_timeAugust 16, 2022

As the world has begun to recover from the effects of COVID-19, the severe consequences of the aggression against Ukraine are the next global shock. The Latin American region is not immune to the upheaval that characterizes this complex and challenging global context. But over the past years, a very important and silent social work has been helping the Latin American people and the reflection can be seen in the U.S. The most recent growth projections for the Latin American countries in 2022 have been adjusted downwards by financial institutions, estimating between 1.8% and 2.4%, on average. While recognizing the…

Trump Tightens Immigration Rules  But…

access_timeSeptember 29, 2020

The U.S president kept immigration at the center of the debate in his administration. Data from the Migration Policy Institute, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) show that immigration, in general, has declined in the country in recent years. On the other hand, immigrants made up 17% of the American civilian workforce in 2018 (most current data). Figures released by the Migration Policy Institute and the US Census and Homeland Security Departments show that the immigrant population is now at a slower pace than in recent years. The number of undocumented people living in…
